Negotiating Skills
“Negotiating Skills” is an activity utilizing www.prezi.com to create a presentation where engineers are negotiating a situation (using negotiation gambits).
Outcomes:
The learner will be able to:
- Give a 8 minute presentation using the tool
- Work as a group to create a presentation
- Develop vocabulary and content around the topic
Preparation:
- Review presentation expectations: presents in a coherent connected discourse; uses introduction, development and conclusion, uses explicit markers and logical connectors; uses vocabulary adequately for the topic
- Review vocabulary expected in the presentation
- Discuss content related to the topic; possibly read related articles
- Engineers may negotiate service contracts with clients, suppliers and contractors. The skills to negotiate and problem solve with co-workers, clients, and stakeholders are essential.
- Discuss how to use the tool if necessary
Delivery:
Create a Prezi where engineers are negotiating a situation (using negotiation gambits). Form groups of five and decide on purpose of project
- Decide on group roles
- Set deadlines for gathering research and creating outline
- Hold group meetings to check on progress
- Write rough draft of presentation
- Create prezi and present to another group for feedback
- Revise prezi, practice, practice
Give 8 minute presentation to the class or other audience. Learners will use an introduction, development and conclusion with explicit markers and logical connectors; use adequate vocabulary related to the topic; speak with appropriate eye contact, body language, etc.
