Podcasting

Podomatic - Instructor Ideas

The instructor can use podcasting (Podomatic) to:

  • A way to easily distribute audio and video files
  • Assist learners to select materials, work with it and create podcasts to explain the ideas to other class members
  • Assist learners to source a number of good podcasting sites
  • Create podcasts on various study topics for learners to listen to and comment upon
  • Create their own podcast channels and upload their most meaningful presentations and lectures
  • Detail for learners how to listen to and evaluate podcasts for quality and usefulness
  • Develop podcasting skills with learners so they can use podcasts to report information they have learned by making a group podcast that is about 5 minutes in length
  • Develop podcasts that use music, photography, video and other supportive features such as web links.
  • Have learners listen to the podcast before they come to class so that learners can bring questions from their listening and create more meaningful discussions
  • Find professional podcast channels to register to so they can update their knowledge in a specific discipline (e.g. civil engineering, nursing, etc.)
  • Use the podcasts before they come to class so that students bring questions from viewing the information for more meaningful discussions
  • Select podcasts from subscribed sites like iTunes where learners can access podcasts from well respected providers such as NPR: Environment
  • Select various podcasts on different topics to provide authentic listening opportunities
  • Sort a number of podcasts into categories for learners to listen and respond to
  • Use podcasts as a anywhere-anytime learning tool
  • “pay it forward” where present learners provide information to new learners using podcasts to help the new learner understand materials sooner
