Using RSS Feeds

Real Simple Syndication, also known as RSS feeds, are effective tools to receive updates from a variety of sites which saves instructors the need to send updates about content to their students. Your students can also select professional sites and resources and always be up to date with the new and most current topics.
Pros:
- Allows students and instructors to always be up to date with current information. For professionals this is an important requirement that assists them to keep up with new research and topics of interest.
- Register to their classroom website (blogs or wikis) RSS feeds and be informed each time the instructor updates the website with new information.
- Use RSS feeds to keep informed about new ideas for teaching that are shared on the web.
- Have news coming directly to their emails or social websites and use the information for class discussion and research topics, as well as, discovery of new terms for vocabulary building purposes.
Cons:
- Is the potential for feeling overwhelmed by the number of news items that you may receive regularly and so you must select fewer more relevant RSS feeds.
- May require support in understanding how the feeds work and how to ensure they use them correctly.
