Reviewing Medical Vocabulary

“Reviewing Medical Vocabulary” is an activity that utilizes www.audiopal.com to create an audio-recording to list medical vocabulary. The objective of the activity is to speak clearly with accurate pronunciation when making the audio-recording.

Outcomes:

The learner will be able to:

  • Speak clearly and concisely with comprehensibility
  • Develop vocabulary related to pronunciation
  • Generate list of then medical vocabulary
  • Develop two audio-recordings

Preparation:

  • Consider pragmatics language for giving feedback in culturally appropriate way
  • Discuss audio-recording expectations as to length, vocabulary used, and content
  • Review pronunciation expectations

Delivery:

  1. Introduce the tool if necessary
    • Clarify participation expectations
      • Grading criteria
      • i.e. one audio-recording; one feedback recording
  2. Discuss pronunciation expectations
    • Focus on linguistic accuracy using medical vocabulary. (Audio-recording can also reinforce learners' pronunciation and spelling.)
  3. Choose medical vocabulary terms (10 words), such as medical conditions (cystic fibrosis)
    • Record by reading the list of medical vocabulary
    • Focus on pronunciation and speaking clearly

  4. Listen to partner’s audiopal message and write the word as in a spelling test
  5. Check spelling using medical dictionary or by checking with in instructor
  6. Repeat for additional practice
