Research Best Engineer Sites

“Research Best Engineer Sites” is an activity that utilizes social bookmarking (Diigo.com) to research and add descriptions in order to track the most useful Canadian engineering websites.

Outcomes:

The learner will be able to:

  • Research for and bookmark Canadian engineering sites
  • Add descriptions to bookmarks
  • Summarize content

Preparation:

  • Note instructor needs to create a Diigo account for self as illustration

Delivery:

  1. Warm-up
    • Teach the tool if necessary
    • Explain that this tool can transform collections of media, like images, videos, documents, and presentations, into a place for a conversation
  2. Presentation
    • Discuss how to research internet for Canadian websites Presentation
    • View instructor's Diigo bookmarking example
    • Set parameters and expectations on the bookmarks the learners chose. For example, should learners choose blogs? Wikis? etc.
  3. Practice
    • Research In groups of 4 or 5, finding the best sites to organize, store, and manage
    • Research sites related to Canadian engineering. A few sites are suggested in the links section
    • Add descriptions to these bookmarks, so that other students can understand the content of the resource
    • Add sticky notes on the website to highlight text
  4. Production
    • Summarize ideas into two or more paragraphs
