Reading Patient Files

“Reading Patient Files” is an activity that uses www.prezi.com to create a presentation showing the process to giving patient information to others. Learners will determine the profile of their patient, diagnosis and care plan as part of the activity.

Outcomes:

The learner will be able to:

  • Give a 8 minute information presentation to describe the process of giving patient information to others
  • Work as a group or team to create a presentation
  • Develop vocabulary and facts related to “presenting a patient”

Preparation:

  • Review presentation expectations: presents in a coherent connected discourse; uses introduction, development and conclusion, uses explicit markers and logical connectors; uses vocabulary adequately for the topic
  • Review vocabulary and content expected

Delivery:

Create a presentation that will show the process of giving patient information to others on the team. (Read patients' files review, synthesize, assess, determine actions, and then brief others.) The triads will have to determine the profile of their patient, diagnosis and care plan.

  1. Start the process
    • Form groups of three and decide on purpose of project
    • Decide on group roles
    • Set deadlines and hold group meetings
    • Write rough draft of presentation
  2. See an activity example using this tool
  3. Create Prezi and present to another group for feedback
    • Revise Prezi, and practice, practice, practice!
  4. Give 8 minute presentation to the class or other audience (uses an introduction, development and conclusion with explicit markers and logical connectors. Uses adequate vocabulary related to the topic. Speaks with appropriate eye contact, body language, etc.)
