Nursing Videos
“Nursing Videos” is an activity utilizing www.vimeo.com that has a bank of videos posted on the topic of nursing. These can be used for viewing, vocabulary development, learning content, etc.
Outcomes:
The learner will be able to:
- Develop vocabulary related to nursing video
- Example related to an IV (Alaris Pump) perforated, secondary tubing, primary tubing, discard, roller clamp, spike the bag, backprime tubing, alcohol swab, drip chamber
- Build oral fluency through creating an audio-recording summarizing video (MCC Nursing Group)
Preparation:
- Review vocabulary choice parameters
- Identify language for students to practice while engaging in the activity
Delivery:
- Introduce the Tool:
- Clarify participation expectations; grading criteria
- View on Vimeo (MCC Nursing Group)
- Choose 10 key vocabulary words and list and define from this video
- Develop (in pairs) 3-5 questions related to the video and submit to instructor
- Provide answers to the questions (or)
- Create a audio-recording with the summary or write a summary of video viewed
- Summarize:
- By breaking into groups to discuss the video, give your questions, share list of vocabulary words
- Conclude with One of These Ideas
- Write a summary that recommends this video to the next class, provide justification of chosen video
- Provide necessary (target) support language (pragmatics) learners can/should practice/focus attention on:
- Providing feedback appropriately. For example, “I feel that your website 'X' is interesting”
- Giving and opinion; Summarizing point
