“Mindmap About Persuasion Topic” is an activity that utilizes www.text2mindmap.com to create a mind-map with the intention to clarify expectations around the topic of "how to persuade others". The mind-map will create an outline that learners then can use to explain treatment for asthma to someone who is resistant to the idea. This will then include the concept of persuasion to increase the complexity of this lesson.

Outcomes:

Preparation:

  • Identify language for students to practice while engaging in the activity
  • Develop list of research resources as they relate
  • Discuss that mind-maps use a non-linear approach to learning that forces the learner to think about relationships
  • Discuss cultural expectations around “persuasion” in the Canadian workplace

Delivery:

  1. Introduce the Tool
  2. Create a mindmap in pairs
    • Choose key words to enter into the middle of the mindmap to represent this problem (for example: asthma risks, asthma help)
    • Enter key terms related to this problem considerations
    • Decide on hierarchy of ideas
    • Figure out relationships of ideas
  3. Review and provide feedback
    • After mindmap is completed, explain to a partner; revise if necessary; seek clarification
    • Use related vocabulary such as asthma related terms
    • Use conversation gambits related to persuasion
  4. Conclude with One of These Ideas
    • Use mindmap with vocabulary to write two paragraphs summarizing
