“Joining a Professional Blog” is an activity that encourages learners to join a professional engineering blog, read blog entries, followed with reflective writing in one's own blog.
Outcomes:
The learner will be able to:
- Write a summary related to engineering and post to a blog
- Read blogs as a research tool
Preparation:
- How to write reflections by supplying wording or gambits, models or providing guiding questions
- Review how to write a summary
- Discuss and list key vocabulary related to the topic
- How to do Peer editing
Delivery:
- Read and join a professional engineer blog
- See “Canada Engineer: Blogspot” as an example
- Discuss the new information from the blog (technical and specialized information) with one peer
- Create a draft written post, one to two paragraphs in length, summarizing the read content from the blog
- Do peer editing; in pairs edit draft summary; revise writing before posting on blog
- Post final draft of writing to blog; add related images
