Explaining a Flowchart
“Explaining a Flowchart” is an activity that utilizes Screencast-O-Matic.com (SOM) in order to make a screencast using an image to facilitate explanation of a flowchart.
Outcomes:
The learner will be able to:
- Create a screencast using an image or a website
- Outline points related to topic
Preparation:
- Note instructor needs to create a screencast from a powerpoint as an example
- Use PowerPoint to create the initial explanation of the steps in writing a progress report
Delivery:
- Warm-up
- Teach the tool if necessary
- Presentation
- Set the parameters for the activity: screen should be no more than 3 minutes; must include at least one photo; can use PowerPoint if desired

- View a instructor-made screencast that explains a “how-to” that requires the use of a computer screen and then video-record what happens on their computer with the voice over feature (or)
- View an instructor-made screencast that explains an engineering process by making a PowerPoint presentation and then using a screencasting tool to create the project
- Practice
- Form groups of 3 learners for this activity; research topic and select images or website to be used for screencast; choose topic:

- Revise screencast taking into consideration peer comments for improvement
