Bookmarking Nursing Research

"Bookmarking Nursing Research” is an activity that utilizes Diigo.com to research, tag, and categorize blogs that will be used to create a class list of blogs.

Outcomes:

The learner will be able to:

  • Research for and bookmark Canadian nursing sites
  • Add descriptions to bookmarks
  • Summarize content

Preparation:

  • Note instructor needs to create a Diigo account for herself as an illustration or example

Delivery:

  1. Warm-up
    • Teach the tool if necessary
    • Discuss how to research internet for nursing websites
  2. Presentation
    • Read the most appropriate blogs in the discipline taught in class. These links are saved with one or more tags to help find the site in the future. For example, use the nursing research blog from st. Joseph's hospital in orange, California. This site has ongoing nursing research.
    • Decide on tags that would be helpful. This may be a separate lesson for the instructor, as key ideas, etc. Need to be determined.
    • Go to EvidenceBasedNursing.Blogspot.com as an idea to begin with. Remember that it is the sharing that makes this tool useful. Learners need to search for blogs, determine the useful ones and then bookmark and share. They need to justify their choices, by documenting in writing in a class blog.
  3. Practice
    • Bookmark best websites or blogs as related to topic in class. Social bookmarking is useful for learners to find ways to search for information other than Google indexing.
    • Research related blogs or wikis
    • Bookmark these sites
  4. Production
    • Share their bookmarks with their classmates
    • Share collections of bookmarks they have found to be worthwhile
    • Find links to important current events in news feeds
