Critical Teaching Principles
The following critical teaching principles have been selected as inspiration points for the design of the toolkits in this project:
- Learning happens through negotiable expectations
- Learning environments allow for the construction of coherent knowledge structures
- Learner control creates commitment and encourages responsibility
- Choices inspire spontaneous and creative learning
- Critical discourse through learning confirms understanding and diagnoses misconceptions
- Critical thinking must be modeled and rewarded
- Assessment must be congruent with outcomes (although the toolkits do not address formal assessment planning)
- Learning is confirmed through assessment (again this project does not address formal assessment needs)
- We find that these principles can be seen "in action" in all the tools and the designing of the toolkits in this projects.
