Critical Teaching Principles

The following critical teaching principles have been selected as inspiration points for the design of the toolkits in this project:

• Learning happens through negotiable expectations
• Learning environments allow for the construction of coherent knowledge structures
• Learner control creates commitment and encourages responsibility
• Choices inspire spontaneous and creative learning
• Critical discourse through learning confirms understanding and diagnoses misconceptions
• Critical thinking must be modeled and rewarded
• Assessment must be congruent with outcomes (although the toolkits do not address formal assessment planning)
• Learning is confirmed through assessment (again this project does not address formal assessment needs)
• We find that these principles can be seen "in action" in all the tools and the designing of the toolkits in this projects.
